Produção de banana no Vale do Ribeira registra alta em 2026

Producers of banana nanica in the Vale do Ribeira observed a notable improvement in profitability during the first half of 2026, according to data from the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea). This improvement, however, is primarily indicative in percentage terms, as absolute profit margins remained tight, akin to the previous year.

Custos de Produção e Preços

The increase in production costs was noted at 3%, reaching R$ 1,40/kg when compared to the same period in 2025. This rise is attributed to a reduction in investments made throughout 2025, as farmers responded to the discouraging economic conditions that year.

Despite the increase in costs, the impact on prices was overshadowed by a 10% average rise in banana prices during the first half of 2026, now standing at R$ 1,59/kg. This price surge was particularly influenced by reduced availability in March due to adverse weather conditions in early months.

Rentabilidade média entre janeiro e junho de 2026 foi de R$ 0,19/kg, 217% superior ao mesmo período de 2025.

Fatores Influentes no Mercado

The banana price spike in March, where it reached R$ 2,16/kg, was reversed by unfavorable weather in late May affecting fruit quality. Competition from nearby regions, particularly the North of Minas Gerais, further complicated price prospects, preventing sustained growth.
